Step by Step Installing a Gas Range:

Step 1: The Size of the Connector

First of all, getting the right connector is necessary for installing a gas range. You can find many connectors on the market.

Now simply search for the only one that is specially designed for the range. For the gas range, you need a connector that has a specific type of end. The usual size is  ½ inches for the gas line and these are like the black threaded pipes.

There should be a connection to the stove for cooking with the gas range. The fitting can be both male and female of ½ inches. The male fittings are external threads and the female fittings are internal threads.

Step 2: Shut Down the Gas

Now, it is time for you to shut down the gas range. Usually, it is switched off. But to certify that you have to check the switch once again. For this, first, take the range out and search for the switch.

The lever of the knob can be on the right or left. This depends on the gas range you are using. You will get the shutoff switch at the back part of the range. In some cases, the switch is set at the bottom part too!

All you have to do is hold the knob and move the lever on the right so that it stays at the correct angle to your pipe. If you already found it in this mode then you can just skin and move on to the following stage.

Unfortunately, some of the gas ranges do not have the shutoff option. Let us tell you if you want to keep your house safe, the shutoff switch is vital.

Step 3: Cover up the Threads

Once you are ready with the gas range, you have to search for a pipe joint. Get a yellow Teflon tape for pipe-joint and cover around the thread. Here, one coat of pipe-joint will not be enough.

So, cover the threads with the tape twice.  You have to keep an eye on the direction of the wrap. Avoid doing it in an anticlockwise direction. As you have the ¾ inches end connector fitting, search for coupling of ½ inches by ¾ inches.

They will match perfectly. For your information, let us tell you that the end fitting of ½ inches at both of the ends of the connectors is not always available. So, make preparations for that beforehand. When you are done, go for the next stop.

Step 4: Wrap up the Connectors

Yes, you are ready to add the connector to your gas line. For this, firstly, you have to take off the end of the connector fitting. Once you take it off, find the Teflon adhesive tape once again and start wrapping. Look at the unbeveled end of the connector.

With the tape, wrap this end. When you see that you have wrapped it properly, you can go through the gas line and screw the connector with the line. Never forget to use both end fittings. It is also necessary that you check for the leaks of the gas pipe beforehand.

At times, we end up adding the connector nuts with the black gas fitting or the pipe with the help of screws. If you choose to do this, the chances of you seeing leaks are very high! Keep the pipe free and avoid sharp bends.

Step 5: Add Some Screws

The connector is ready and so, you have to go for the screws now. Search for a street elbow of ½ inches by ½ inches. Just take some screws and screw this street elbow to the gas range port.

Now, get your hands on the opposite end fitting of the connector. You have to screw it to the street elbow too! Get the screw and do it. Again, search for the Teflon tape and start taping the fittings. Both sides should be wrapped with the tape properly.

Most people do the mistake of over-tightening with the tape. You must avoid doing it! Once you are done with screwing, get ready for tightening the nuts. Search for the two end connector fitting’s nuts. Now, start tightening them.

While doing it, keep your other hand on the tube. Make sure that your tube is kept straight alongside the fitting. You might like to use some Teflon tapes here but don’t do it.

Step 6: Check for the Leaks

As we have told you before, the leaks can cost you all your effort till now! So, before everything, you have to check for leaks. Even if you are a pro, you can anytime forget to check for leaks and you cannot avoid unwanted accidents afterward.

So, in this step, we will tell you how you have to check for leaks. First, you need to turn the gas cock. Keep it vertically. After you do it, the burners will light up. Keep the like this for 60 seconds.

This will help in getting the air out of the gas line. Now, it is time for you to spray the joints. Get a gas leak detector to do this. If you do not have this, go for warm soapy water instead. In case there is any sort of leak, there will be the formation of bubbles.

All you must do is be on the lookout for these. Until you ensure there are no leaks, do not use a gas range for cooking. If you do not find out what mistake you did, you have to make an appointment with your local gas company. They will solve it for you.

Step 7: Enjoy Cooking

We are sure that you are only reading this step if you have completed the last one. So, now that you are sure that there are no leaks, you can take the new stove in its rightful position! You are ready, friend! Now, with your best gas range, you can cook whatever you please!
